Inverroche // Beehive Gin Bottle
In 2022, South African gin brand Inverroche launched the Bee&Bee initiative, transforming its gin packaging into a functional bee hotel. Designed with biodiversity researcher Chevonne Reynolds and sustainable furniture brand Houtlander, the wooden packaging provides nesting sites for solitary bees, key pollinators of the fynbos biome, where Inverroche sources its botanicals. Solitary bees require small cavities to nest, but habitat loss threatens their survival. Bee&Bee offers a sustainable solution, using biodegradable, chemical-free wood from invasive species, with laser-engraved nesting holes for multiple bee species. By repurposing packaging into a conservation tool, Inverroche sets a precedent for purpose-driven, environmentally beneficial innovation.
